My name is Matt Greer and I am from Birmingham.

I first went skiing on a school trip to Ackers Ski Slope when I was ten years old. I fell over a lot, went home absolutely covered in that strange synthetic snow that ski slopes use, and could not stop thinking about it for weeks. I have been going back to the mountains every winter since I could afford to.

I built this site because I kept getting the same questions from friends and colleagues. Which jacket should I buy? Is Les Gets or Morzine better for a group with mixed ability? Is it worth paying for lessons or can you just YouTube it? I had answers to all of these because I had made most of the mistakes personally and done the research so other people did not have to.

Eventually it seemed more efficient to just write it all down somewhere.

Midlands Snowsports Community is focused on the English Midlands because that is where I am from and it matters. Most ski content is written for people who live near an airport with direct flights to Geneva. That is not most of us. I write for people who drive to East Midlands or Birmingham Airport, who learned on a dry slope in Tamworth or Swadlincote, and who budget carefully for one good trip a year and want to make sure they get it right.

I cover gear honestly. When something is not worth the money I say so. When something is excellent I explain why and link to where you can buy it.

I also have extremely strong opinions about ski socks. More on that shortly.

If you have a question, a tip, or you want to suggest something I should write about, you can reach me at matt@midlandski.org.uk. I read everything.
